大阪電気軌道四条畷線, Former railway line in Osaka, Japan
The Osaka Electric Railway Shijonawate Line was a planned railway intended to run from Sakuranomiya through several districts including Gamō, Imafuku, and Shijonawate in the Kansai region. Portions of the former embankment between Imafuku and Teragawa stations remain visible and were integrated into the current road network.
Construction permits were obtained in 1922 and work began in 1930, but the project remained incomplete when permits expired in 1942. The route temporarily operated as a bus service before being discontinued entirely.
The railway development reflected the rapid industrialization period of Japan, marking a time of expanded transportation networks in the Kansai region.
The best way to explore the remains is to visit the area between Imafuku and Teragawa, where the former alignment remains visible. Walking along the modern roads that now follow the historic route helps you understand the railway's planned path.
The project was designed to connect eleven stations but never fully opened as a railway. This unrealized vision makes it a notable site for those interested in transportation history and unfinished infrastructure.
