Tower of Life, Observation tower in Tsurumi-ku, Japan
Tower of Life is an observation tower within Tsurumiryokuchi Expo '90 Commemorative Park, offering views across 300 acres of gardens and green spaces in Osaka. The site combines the tower with diverse garden areas, botanical exhibitions, and recreational facilities that spread across the entire park grounds.
Architect Kiyoshi Kawasaki designed this observation tower for the 1990 International Garden and Greenery Exposition. The exposition grounds were transformed into a commemorative park and have remained open to the public since then.
The park displays botanical gardens representing different climate zones, from desert landscapes to alpine environments using authentic local soil from each region. Visitors walk through these varied settings and experience how plants adapt to their natural conditions.
The park is free to enter and sits directly outside Tsurumi-ryokuchi Station on the Osaka Metro line. Operating hours run from morning through late afternoon, giving visitors plenty of time to stroll through the grounds and climb to the tower.
The park houses Japan's largest greenhouse, Sakuya Konohana Kan, which serves as a major draw alongside the tower. Visitors also find tea houses, swimming pools, and camping areas, making the site more than just a viewpoint.
