Mount Ōasa

Mount Ōasa rises 538 meters within the Sanuki mountain range and dominates the local landscape. Its slopes display varied vegetation that shifts noticeably across the four seasons, creating a changing backdrop throughout the year.

The mountain has served as a geographical reference point for the Tokushima region since the Edo period, when regional boundaries were established. Its enduring presence shaped how people understood and navigated the surrounding landscape.

The mountain is accessible via three different hiking trails, with the eastern route offering the gentlest ascent over about 2.5 kilometers. Wear appropriate footwear and check weather conditions before visiting, as conditions change considerably with the seasons.

The mountain contains naturally formed rock formations that create wind tunnels, producing musical sounds when strong air currents pass through the gaps. These acoustic effects occur as wind travels through spaces between the stones, creating different tones.
