Taikōganaru

Taikōganaru is a castle ruin on a hilltop in Tottori, with stone walls and fortification structures still visible today. The site offers views over the landscape and shows the layout of defensive positions and fortification elements.

The fortification was built in 1581 during the siege of Tottori to control strategic routes. It was part of a larger campaign to bring the region under central rule.

The site shows how feudal lords demonstrated power through military structures and how such fortifications shaped daily life in the region. The remains tell of the strategies that samurai and warriors used to maintain control over the land.

The path to the ruins follows marked hiking trails from Tottori, with informational panels along the way. Comfortable shoes are recommended, as the climb can be steep and the paths uneven.

Excavations have uncovered weapons and everyday objects from the time of the siege, revealing how soldiers lived there. These discoveries allow visitors to picture the scenes from that intense military period.
