Himesaki Lighthouse, Coastal lighthouse in Sado, Japan.
Himesaki Lighthouse is a white cast iron structure on the northern coast of Sado Island that marks the entrance to Ryotsu Bay. The tower stands on a rocky headland and overlooks the strait between Sado and Honshu.
The lighthouse was built in 1895 as the first maritime beacon on Sado Island. It remains one of Japan's oldest intact cast iron lighthouses.
The lighthouse forms part of the World 100 Lighthouses list and serves as a central element in the maritime traditions of the local fishing communities.
The site is about 15 minutes by car from Ryotsu Port or accessible by bus to Nojou stop followed by a 15-minute walk. A visitor center next to the tower displays maritime items and historical objects and costs nothing to enter.
The Himesaki Lighthouse Visitor Centre displays maritime artifacts and historical documents while offering free admission to all guests throughout the year.
