Château de Teraikejo

Château de Teraikejo is a castle ruin perched on a hilltop in Kesennuma with stone foundations and multiple layers of fortifications. The remaining structures demonstrate how the fortress used the surrounding topography to create an effective defensive position.

The castle developed during the Sengoku period as a military outpost monitoring activities along the northern coast. It played a role in controlling strategic routes between inland territories and maritime approaches.

Teraikejo Castle represents the architectural principles of Japanese fortress design, incorporating natural terrain features and traditional building techniques of the period.

The site is accessible via maintained walking paths that lead to various areas of the former fortifications. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear as the terrain is hilly and uneven in places.
