Nochiseyama Castle, 16th century castle ruins in Obama, Japan
The stone walls and foundation of Nochiseyama Castle stand on a mountain location that overlooks the coastal area of Obama in Fukui Prefecture.
The construction of Nochiseyama Castle began in 1522 under the direction of Kyogoku Takatsugu, who later supported Tokugawa Ieyasu during the Battle of Sekigahara.
The castle site includes Obama Shrine, established in 1875 after the castle's decommissioning, representing the connection between military and religious heritage.
Visitors can reach the castle ruins by taking a 20-minute walk north from Obama Station, following Route 162 to the elevated site.
The castle's strategic position allowed defenders to monitor both land and sea approaches, making it an essential fortification for controlling the region.
