広島県民の森, Mountain forest park in Shobara, Japan.
Hiroshima Kenmin no Mori is a mountain forest park covering 1,164 hectares with varied forest types across different elevations. The terrain rises to 1,200 meters and adjoins a larger quasi-national park with extensive hiking networks throughout the region.
The forest park was established to preserve natural environments while providing education and recreation for Hiroshima residents. Its creation reflected growing awareness in Japan about the importance of protecting native forests.
The park is home to pure beech forests that are recognized as national natural monuments, reflecting how the region values forest conservation. These old stands support local wildlife and plant communities that have adapted to mountain conditions.
The area offers seven different hiking trails starting from 1.2 kilometers with options for various fitness levels. There are also separate areas for dogs of different sizes if you are bringing a pet along.
During winter months from December through March, the area transforms into a skiing destination with four ski slopes reaching a maximum gradient of 35 degrees. This seasonal shift makes it a year-round recreation spot for different activities.
