平成大橋, Steel bridge in Maebashi, Japan
The Heisei Bridge is a steel crossing over the Tonegawa River that joins Takasaki and Maebashi by way of National Route 27. The structure accommodates both cars and pedestrians traveling between these two cities.
The bridge opened in 1972 and replaced the Kuden Ferry service that had previously crossed the Tonegawa at this location. This new link provided a more direct connection between the two cities.
The structure represents an essential connection point for residents of both Maebashi and Takasaki cities, facilitating daily community interactions across the river.
The bridge is straightforward to cross on foot and features designated pedestrian paths on both sides. From the crossing, visitors have good views of the river and surrounding areas.
Three major Japanese industrial companies collaborated on its construction: Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Kurimoto Iron Works, and Sumitomo Heavy Industries. This partnership was characteristic of large-scale Japanese infrastructure projects of that era.
