Sō Falls, Waterfall in Myoko, Japan
Sō Falls is a waterfall in the mountains of Myoko where water drops about 55 meters down the slope. The white cascade is visible from several observation areas and creates a natural display of moving water.
The waterfall was included on Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls list, which led to increased protection and conservation efforts in the area. This recognition helped preserve the site within the Myoko-Togakushi Renzan National Park.
Near the waterfall, traditional restaurants offer a local custom where diners catch flowing noodles from water channels. This practice shows how water and food connect in the daily life of the region.
Access is through a trail of about 1.2 kilometers starting from the parking area at Tsubame Onsen, which takes about 30 minutes to walk. The route is short and straightforward, making it manageable for most visitors.
The amount of water flowing changes greatly depending on the season, with the strongest flow during spring snowmelt. This means visitors see quite different views depending on when they visit during the year.
