Nihomatsu Domain Monumental Stele, Stone monument at Nihonmatsu Castle, Japan
The granite stele measures 8.5 meters in length and 5 meters in width, featuring four lines of traditional kanji characters near the castle entrance.
The fifth daimyo of Nihonmatsu Domain, Niwa Takahiro, commissioned this monument in 1749 during the transfer of power to his son Niwa Takayasu.
The inscription on the stone conveys a message to domain officials about their duties, stating that salaries come from the people's labor.
The monument stands at coordinates 37.598306, 140.432917 within the castle grounds and received National Historic Site designation in 1935.
The stele text specifically warns officials that while common people may be controlled, higher powers cannot be deceived by their actions.
