上蓬莱橋

Kami Horai Bridge is a railway bridge that spans the Tadami River in the mountainous region of Fukushima. It carries trains across steep valleys where the river winds through forested terrain.

The bridge was built as part of the Tadami Line to connect isolated mountain villages to the railway network. It opened routes for goods and people moving through terrain that had limited access before.

Local residents gather near the bridge during seasonal celebrations, particularly in autumn when the surrounding maple trees display red foliage.

You can view the bridge from several observation areas along the Tadami River, with the best vantage points near the riverbanks. Early morning offers the most favorable light for photography and clear views.

During early morning hours, the bridge structure creates a perfect reflection in the river water, forming a complete circle with its mirror image. This fleeting phenomenon occurs only when the water surface is calm and windless.
