こむこむ, Science museum in Fukushima, Japan

Komukomu is a learning center in Fukushima that displays damaged objects and detailed dioramas to document events from 2011. The exhibits number around 200 items that show the earthquake, tsunami, and impacts on the nuclear power station.

The facility was founded in 2020 to preserve the events of March 2011, when earthquake and tsunami struck the region. Its creation followed these natural disasters and their aftermath for the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

The museum preserves personal stories from residents about how their lives and communities changed. Visitors can hear directly from people who lived through these events and shaped how the place is remembered today.

The museum offers guided tours where visitors can learn more about what happened. The tours also make it possible to visit nearby towns like Futaba and Namie to understand the effects on the ground.

A fire truck destroyed by tsunami waves stands in the collection as one of the most striking objects. This vehicle shows the raw power of the disaster and often catches the attention of visitors exploring the physical damage.
