Fukushima Prefectural Culture Center, Multi-purpose cultural center in Fukushima City, Japan.
The Fukushima Prefectural Culture Center is a multipurpose building in Fukushima City housing two performance halls of different sizes. The larger auditorium seats around 1,750 people while the smaller venue accommodates approximately 380 guests.
The building sustained damage from an earthquake in 2011 and underwent major repairs and structural reinforcements. It reopened to the public in 2012 with enhanced safety features to withstand future tremors.
The center hosts concerts, theater productions, and art exhibitions featuring both Japanese and international artists. Visitors can experience how the space serves as a gathering place where local audiences encounter diverse forms of performance and visual art.
The easiest route is to take the Momorin City Loop bus from Fukushima Station and get off at the Sakura no Seibo Tankidaigaku stop. From there it is a short walk to reach the building entrance.
The center hosts the Contemporary Art Biennale, a biennial modern art exhibition that has been held regularly since the early 2000s. This event has become a defining part of the local art scene and draws visitors from across the region.
