日本橋

Nihonbashi is a steel railway bridge that spans the Tadami River and connects sections of the Tadami Line through Fukushima Prefecture. The structure allows trains to cross a deep river valley that would otherwise separate communities and rail routes.

The bridge opened in 1986 and served for many years until a major natural disaster in 2011 caused severe damage and forced its closure. After more than a decade of reconstruction work, the rail line reopened in 2022 and trains resumed their regular routes.

This crossing is part of a rail line that links small villages through rural Fukushima, serving as a vital transport route for local communities. Trains passing over it connect people living in scattered mountain settlements.

The crossing is best reached by taking the JR Tadami Line from stations such as Aizu-Wakamatsu, with trains directly passing over it multiple times daily. Train schedules are limited compared to busier routes, so visitors should plan ahead and confirm departure times before traveling.

The river below often creates beautiful reflections of the steel structure, especially during clear morning light when the water is calm. Many photographers find these quiet moments between trains particularly rewarding for capturing the bridge in its natural surroundings.
