JR Central Nagoya Workshop

The JR Central Nagoya Workshop is a railway maintenance facility in Nagara-chō where passenger trains and freight cars are serviced and repaired. The site has several specialized areas where vehicles are inspected, repaired, and returned to service.

The facility began in 1890 as a Kansai Railway factory and moved to its current location in 1924. It later became part of the JR Central company and has continued serving the railway network for over a century.

The facility represents Japan's dedication to railway excellence through its maintenance procedures, technical training programs, and engineering advancement initiatives.

Access to the workshop is generally restricted since it remains an active maintenance facility. Visitors should check in advance whether tours or special viewing opportunities are available.

Following extensive renovations completed in 2022, the workshop integrated new inspection equipment while maintaining full operational capabilities during construction.
