Matsumoto City Museum of Art

The Matsumoto City Museum of Art features multiple exhibition spaces spread across three floors, displaying contemporary Japanese artworks and temporary collections.

Architect Tadanaga Miyamoto designed this modernist building, which received the prestigious BCS Prize in 2003 and Public Buildings Award in 2010.

The museum maintains a permanent collection of works by Yayoi Kusama, who was born in Matsumoto and created numerous pieces reflecting Japanese artistic movements.

Located twenty minutes from Matsumoto Castle, the museum welcomes visitors daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, except Mondays, with an entrance fee of 410 yen.

The entrance features a large tulip sculpture installation that introduces visitors to the museum's contemporary art collection and architectural design.
