Negoro-ji

Negoro-ji is a Buddhist temple situated on Mount Aōmine, with multiple halls arranged for worship and featuring traditional Japanese religious architecture throughout its grounds. The complex includes distinct areas designed for prayer and meditation.

This temple was founded between 810 and 824 by Buddhist masters Kūkai and Enchin during their travels through the region. This founding period established it as a significant pilgrimage destination for many centuries.

This place is an important site for worshipping Kannon, the goddess of compassion, and visitors can observe how this figure holds meaning in local spiritual practice today.

The temple is roughly 30 minutes by car from JR Takamatsu Station and provides parking for about 20 vehicles on the grounds. Plan your visit for pleasant weather and wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking on temple grounds and up slight inclines.

This place houses a wooden statue of the Thousand-Armed Kannon that is revealed only once every 33 years. This rare viewing draws pilgrims who may see it just a few times in their lifetime.
