波賀城史跡公園, Historical castle park in Shiso, Japan
Haga Castle Historic Park sits on Castle Mountain at 458 meters elevation with reconstructed structures including a two-story tower and wooden gates. The site provides views across the surrounding landscape and the town of Haga below.
The castle was founded in 1261 by Haga Shichiro and remained under Nakamura clan control through the late Sengoku period. It served as a strategic location during this turbulent military era of Japanese history.
The learning center inside the reconstructed tower displays artifacts and documents explaining medieval Japanese castle construction methods. Visitors can see how defensive structures were designed and adapted to the mountain terrain during this period.
Admission is free and parking is available on site, though spaces are limited. Visitors should note that mountain access conditions vary by season, and sturdy footwear is recommended.
The reconstructed castle structures are illuminated after sunset, creating distinct silhouettes against the mountain backdrop. This evening lighting offers a different experience from daytime visits and is visible from the surrounding Haga area.
