Harafudou Falls

Harafudou Falls is a three-tiered waterfall located in a forest of Japanese beech and fir trees near Shiso. The water descends roughly 88 meters through the wooded terrain.

The site was known during the Edo period when local residents maintained paths around the waterfall as part of religious mountain worship practices. This connection shows how the place has long held spiritual meaning for communities in the area.

The falls are counted among Japan's recognized waterfalls and represent the natural heritage valued by people in Hyogo Prefecture. Locals and visitors regard this place as part of the region's landscape identity.

The falls are accessible from April through November via a paved walkway, with parking for about 50 vehicles at the base. The path is straightforward and suitable for visitors with average fitness levels.

The waterfall actually consists of two separate water streams that flow side by side through the dense forest and are known as the male and female falls. This parallel arrangement creates a distinctive visual element rarely seen elsewhere.
