Hekinan Station, railway station in Hekinan, Aichi prefecture, Japan
Hekinan Station is a railway station in the city of Hekinan, Aichi Prefecture, served by the Meitetsu Mikawa Line. It features a single platform with tracks on both sides, automatic entry gates, wheelchair accessible ramps and elevators, accessible restrooms, tactile paving for people with visual impairments, and Braille signage throughout the facility.
The station opened in 1914 as Ōhama-minato Station under the Mikawa Railroad company. It was renamed Hekinan Station in 1954 and has undergone changes in ownership and operations over the decades. A branch line to Kira-Yoshida that once operated from this station closed in 2004.
The station is unstaffed and operates with automatic ticket gates, so plan to arrive with enough time to navigate the machines. For questions or special assistance, especially regarding mobility support, contacting the station in advance is recommended.
The station transitioned from a staffed facility to fully automated operations, making it an early example of this shift in the region. This change reflects how Japanese railway stations have adapted to new technology while maintaining accessibility for all users.
