Murasaki Shikibu Park

Murasaki Shikibu Park is a literary memorial space featuring a garden designed in Heian-period style set across roughly 1.9 hectares, with a central pond, a fishing pavilion, and wisteria trellises throughout. The grounds provide a walking experience that connects visitors to the world and era of this important author.

The park commemorates Lady Murasaki Shikibu, who came to this region in the early 11th century while accompanying her father Fujiwara no Tametoki. It preserves the memory of her time and marks her importance to Japanese literary history.

The park is named after Murasaki Shikibu, the author of The Tale of Genji, one of Japan's most important literary works. A golden statue placed here honors her memory and reminds visitors of her lasting influence on Japanese culture.

The park is accessible by bus from Takefu Station and sits in Echizen with good road access. Wear comfortable shoes, as the grounds encourage walking and offer various paths through the garden space.

An adjacent museum displays traditional crafts and shows the author's writing methods through modern exhibition approaches. This combination of a historical garden with contemporary interpretation creates an interesting bridge between past and present.
