Maishima Sports Island, Sports park in Hokkō-ryokuchi, Osaka, Japan.
Maishima Sports Island is a sports complex on an artificial island in Osaka Bay that includes soccer pitches, tennis courts, and other playing surfaces. The facilities spread across an open site with water views and paved pathways connecting the individual courts.
The island was created in the 1990s as part of a land reclamation project in the port area of Osaka. The sports facilities were then established to offer recreation options for the growing population in greater Osaka.
Youth teams and neighborhood groups from surrounding districts gather here in the evenings and on weekends to play together. Local tournaments often draw families and friends who watch from the sidelines along the playing fields.
The facilities are reachable by car and public transport, with parking available on site. Lockers and changing rooms are located near the entrances to the main playing areas.
Some of the playing fields offer direct views of the container terminals and passing ships in the harbor. Wind from the water can affect conditions for ball sports, so players adjust to changing air currents.
