Naena Falls, Natural waterfall in Myoko, Japan.
The water of Naena Falls drops 55 meters down a rectangular basalt cliff face, creating a strong thundering sound through the Niigata Prefecture landscape.
The Ministry of Environment of Japan included Naena Falls in its selection of the country's Top 100 Waterfalls, recognizing its natural and geological importance.
Local residents celebrate the waterfall's presence through nagashi-somen traditions, where diners catch noodles flowing down bamboo slides near the falls.
Visitors reach the falls via a 400-meter paved trail from the parking area, crossing a suspension bridge and climbing steps past dam infrastructure.
The intense sound of water hitting rocks earned Naena Falls the name 'Earthquake Falls' among local communities in the Myoko region.
