Nishiyamato Gakuen Junior High School and High School, Private boarding school in Kawai, Japan
Nishiyamato Gakuen Junior High School and High School is a private boarding institution in Kawai covering grades 7 through 12. The campus accommodates roughly 1,600 students and includes modern classrooms, study areas, and communal spaces.
The school opened on June 1, 1986, founded by Ryotaro Tanose, who sought to create a new educational institution in the region. He later established the Nishiyamato Academy of California, extending the educational vision beyond Japan.
The institution operates with a dual-language curriculum, teaching in both English and Japanese to prepare students for opportunities abroad. Traditional Japanese educational values remain part of daily school life and guide the approach to learning.
The Seiun-ryo dormitory, opened in 1992, houses 118 students from regions including Chubu, Kansai, and Chugoku. Visitors typically access the campus only during official events or by prior arrangement with the administration.
Around 30 percent of boarding students come from the Chubu region, creating a diverse community alongside returnees from overseas. This mix brings different perspectives into school life and encourages exchange between students with varying backgrounds.
