The Nasu Highland Lovers' Observation Deck sits at roughly 1,050 meters and offers wide views of Mount Nasu and the broad Kanto Plain stretching beyond it. The location combines scenic vistas with a quiet setting where visitors can pause and take in the surroundings.
Before becoming a public viewpoint, this site functioned as a parking area on the former Volcano Highway route. Its transformation into an observation deck in 2010 marked its transition to a destination for visitors.
This viewpoint holds special meaning for couples and features a commemorative plate honoring its registration in Japan's Lovers' Sanctuary Project. Visitors come here to celebrate their relationships while taking in the surrounding landscape together.
Free parking is available for a small number of vehicles, and the site can also be reached by bus from a major nearby station with a roughly one-hour journey. Visitors will have the best views on clear days, and the walkways are straightforward to navigate.
In spring, around 200,000 mountain azaleas bloom in the nearby azalea colony, filling the surrounding area with color. This seasonal display is one reason many people visit the deck during this time of year.
