Nasu Heisei-no-mori Forest, Forest park in Nasu, Japan
Nasu Heisei-no-mori is a forest park at the base of the Nasu mountains with trails winding through mixed woodland and waterfalls. The area covers 560 hectares and sits at around 1000 meters elevation.
The forest transferred from the Imperial Household Agency to the Ministry of Environment in 2008 and opened to the public in 2011. This shift marked a change in how the land would be managed and used.
The forest divides into two sections: one open to all visitors and another accessible only with a guide to protect the landscape. This separation lets people experience nature while keeping sensitive areas safe from overuse.
The Field Center offers guided walks and educational programs about local plants and animals across all seasons. Staff help visitors understand the forest and explore the trails safely.
The Komadome Waterfall drops from the forest with observation decks at different levels, letting visitors see the cascade from multiple angles. These viewing spots offer surprising perspectives on how water moves through the landscape.
