長寿寺

Located on the eastern side of Kumamoto, this temple compound includes multiple halls connected by paved stone pathways through traditional landscaped gardens.

The temple dates back to the early Edo period and underwent several reconstructions, particularly after the fires during the Satsuma Rebellion of 1877.

The temple follows Nichiren Buddhist practices, maintaining daily ceremonies and seasonal rituals that connect local residents with traditional Japanese spiritual customs.

Visitors can access the temple grounds from sunrise to sunset, with additional meditation sessions scheduled during morning hours by advance reservation.

The temple contains a collection of ancient scrolls detailing Buddhist teachings and local historical events from the perspective of resident monks through centuries.
