長六橋

Chorokubashi Bridge spans the Shirakawa River in central Kumamoto and serves as a major transportation link along National Route 3. The current structure uses prestressed concrete girders to carry traffic across this waterway.

The original bridge was built in 1601 by Kato Kiyomasa and was the sole crossing over the Shirakawa in the castle town. Over the centuries it was rebuilt eight times following major flooding events.

The bridge links different parts of Kumamoto and has been used by locals and travelers for centuries. It remains woven into the daily rhythm of the city's transportation network.

Several train stations are within walking distance of the bridge, offering access via various public transportation options. The route is accessible throughout the day.

The bridge was last renovated in 1990 and received its present form in prestressed concrete. This modernization made it resilient against future flooding that periodically affects the region.
