Rendai-ji, Buddhist temple in Nishi-ku, Japan

Rendai-ji temple features traditional Japanese architectural elements, including meticulously maintained gardens that provide spaces for meditation and contemplation throughout the year.

Originally established with twelve monasteries known as Junibo, Rendai-ji underwent reconstruction in 960 when Kanku rebuilt the structure and gave it its current name.

The temple preserves the Eka-enkei Sutra, a significant picture scroll from the late Heian period that illustrates Buddhist teachings of cause and effect.

The temple welcomes visitors daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM without admission fees, and can be reached by taking the 205 city bus from JR Kyoto Station.

The temple grounds contain the tomb of Buddhist Priest Teicho, who created numerous Buddhist statues during the Heian period.
