Suzaka Jin'ya, Administrative complex from Edo period in Suzaka, Japan
The Suzaka Jin'ya contains multiple preserved structures including a bell tower, stone-piled ramparts, and a relocated gatehouse within a sake brewery.
The administrative center was established between 1615 and 1617 by either Hori Naoshige or Hori Naomasu, serving as a regional government office for the Tokugawa shogunate.
The complex demonstrates the architectural elements of Japanese administrative buildings, featuring traditional wooden construction methods and organizational layouts from the Edo period.
Visitors can reach the site via a 15-minute walk from Suzaka Station on the Nagano Line, with the remains spread between Okuda Shrine and the local history museum.
The site maintains one of the few surviving collections of jin'ya structures in Japan, including an original bell tower and stone fortifications near Suzaka Elementary School.
