Tenpaku Park, Public park in Nagiso, Japan
Tenpaku Park is a public garden in Nagiso featuring six varieties of azaleas that produce around 400 blooming plants from mid to late April. The grounds also include the 247-meter Momosuke Bridge, originally built to transport materials to a nearby power plant.
The park was created as a memorial site following a devastating landslide that struck the region earlier. The Momosuke Bridge was constructed during Japan's industrial development period and reflects the economic growth of that era.
A memorial sculpture of a mourning girl stands in the park, honoring those lost in a tragic landslide and preserving the emergency broadcast message from that time.
The park is located at 2937-161 Yomikaki in Nagiso-machi and welcomes visitors daily, though it is closed on Wednesdays. Plan your visit for April to see the azaleas at their peak bloom.
The park grows the rare Nagiso mitsuba tsutsuji azalea variety, which later became the town's official flower. These special plants catch visitors' eyes because they look different from other azalea types.
