Kan'o-in is a Buddhist temple in Fujisawa featuring traditional Japanese wooden structures with curved roofs and meditation spaces throughout its grounds. The architectural style represents the classical design typical of temples from its founding era.

This site was founded in 1218 during the Kamakura period and officially designated as a seminary by the Tokugawa shogunate in 1609. This recognition reflected its growing importance in Buddhist education and institutional life.

This temple serves as the first station of the Sagami Region's 88-temple pilgrimage route, and you can see pilgrims visiting throughout the year to begin their spiritual journey. The site holds deep meaning in local Buddhist practice as a starting point for this traditional circuit.

The temple is within walking distance from Fujisawa Station, accessible by a short walk of about 15 minutes. Comfortable shoes are recommended, and visiting during quieter times offers a more peaceful experience.

The temple houses a rotating scripture hall similar to the rinzo found at Hasedera Temple, where visitors can turn the structure themselves. This practice is believed locally to bring spiritual benefits to those who perform it.
