荘厳寺

Shogenji is a Buddhist temple in Fujisawa featuring traditional wooden construction with a main hall and several ceremonial gates positioned across its grounds. The layout includes meditation spaces and gardens connected by pathways that link the various structures.

The temple was founded in 1325 and endured repeated destruction from fires throughout its history. Its main hall was rebuilt in 1937, reflecting how the site adapted and persisted through major challenges.

The temple is located roughly 1.5 kilometers from Fujisawa Station and opens its grounds to visitors daily. Wear comfortable walking shoes and allow time to move slowly through the halls and gardens without rush.

The grounds are home to a ginkgo tree that has grown for more than 700 years, standing as a living landmark. A pond called Hojo-ike contains koi fish that have inhabited the site since the 1600s, capturing the attention of visitors across centuries.
