Nagusa-jinja

Nagusa-jinja is a Shinto shrine in Yabu distinguished by a remarkable three-story wooden pagoda. The structure displays traditional Japanese architectural features throughout its entire design and construction.

The pagoda arrived as a gift from Izumo Taisha in 1665 following Yabu's contribution of a valuable tree to their renovation work. This gesture established a lasting connection between the two sacred sites.

The shrine serves as a place of worship where visitors can observe traditional religious practices in action. The wooden structure and carefully designed surroundings shape how the sacred space appears and functions today.

The shrine sits within a wooded setting best explored on foot. Comfortable shoes are recommended since the path to the pagoda follows natural forest trails.

The pagoda displays architectural features from the Muromachi period, making it a rare example of that era. Because of its status as a cultural property, any restoration work requires special government approval.
