Hakodate Arena is a modern multipurpose facility in Yunokawa district designed with two oval-shaped halls beneath a wave-like roof structure. The venue accommodates approximately 5,000 seats and serves as a space for sports events, concerts, and conventions.
The facility was designed by architecture firm Daiken Sekkei and opened in August 2015. Its construction reflected the city's effort to enhance Hakodate as a major events destination.
The arena serves as the home for local basketball and futsal teams that draw passionate fans throughout their seasons. These sports have become part of the city's sporting identity and bring the community together regularly.
The location is easily accessible by streetcar from Hakodate Station, with a journey of around 20 minutes to the arena stop. Those arriving from the airport can take a taxi that takes about 10 minutes to reach the venue.
The exterior design incorporates the Tomoe emblem of Hakodate City into its architectural form, reflecting local heritage. The curved structure intentionally avoids sharp corners, giving the building a smooth and flowing appearance.
