恵明寺, Buddhist temple in Nishiarai, Adachi-ku, Japan
Keimei-ji is a Buddhist temple in Nishiarai with expansive grounds containing 21 notable structures, including the Niomon Gate and a thirteen-story pagoda. The site also features a large Dainichi Nyorai statue and traditional ponds that form a complex religious complex.
The temple was founded in 826 when Buddhist monk Kukai established it, setting the start of a long history. It has since remained one of the three largest temples in the Kanto region across many centuries.
The Daruma Kuyo ceremony takes place here, where visitors see people bringing old Daruma dolls to express gratitude and receive new ones in the Komyoden hall. This ritual continues to draw those seeking blessings and new beginnings.
The temple sits next to Daishimae Station on the Tobu Daishi line, making it easy to reach by train. Parking for cars and bicycles is available on the grounds.
A 700-year-old Wisteria tree grows on the grounds and is a distinctive feature of the site. The tree draws visitor attention especially when it blooms.
