Metsä, Nordic theme park on Lake Miyazawa in Hannō, Japan
Metsä is a Nordic theme park beside Lake Miyazawa in Hannō, Japan, divided into two zones: Metsä Village offers northern European lifestyle experiences, while Moominvalley Park brings characters from Finnish literature to life. Both sections sit along the shoreline and connect through wide walking paths.
The grounds opened in November 2018 as the first Moomin entertainment center outside Finland. The second part, Moominvalley Park, followed a few months later in March 2019.
The name comes from Finnish and means forest, reflected in the wooden buildings and nature paths throughout the grounds. Families often gather at long communal tables to share meals together, following northern European tradition.
A regular shuttle bus connects Hannō Station with the main entrance, making it easy to reach. The grounds are mostly flat and walkable, with rest benches along the paths.
The Moominhouse displays recreations of scenes from Tove Jansson's stories, where visitors walk through and explore the fictional home. The Nordic Market Hall holds specialty shops selling northern European products and workshops teaching traditional Scandinavian woodcraft to participants.
