Mikaho Park, Public park in Sapporo, Japan
Mikaho Park is a sports park in a residential neighborhood of Sapporo, Japan, with tennis courts, baseball fields, a gymnasium, and a seasonal skating rink. The grounds are divided into distinct areas, each set up for a different activity and used throughout the year depending on the season.
The Mikaho Gymnasium inside the park served as a competition venue during the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics, hosting several winter sports events. That role left a lasting mark on how the park is remembered in the city.
The small zoo open from June through October lets visitors get close to animals like chipmunks and mountain goats in a hands-on setting. This corner of the park draws families who come for the animals rather than the sports facilities.
The facilities change with the seasons, so it helps to check in advance which areas are open during your visit. In winter, the skating rink is the main draw, while summer opens up the outdoor sports fields and the zoo.
The park's name comes from the initials of three people who donated the land on which it was built. This origin is rarely known to visitors, making the name feel like an ordinary Japanese word when it is actually a personal tribute.
