Higashi-ku, Administrative ward in Sapporo, Japan

Higashi-ku spans 57.13 square kilometers and contains multiple neighborhoods including Sakaemachi, Okadama-cho, and Fushiko, intersected by the Toyohira River.

The area emerged from the 1870 establishments of Naebo and Okadama Villages, later merging into Sapporo Village in 1902 before becoming an official ward in 1972.

The ward features Japan's sole beer museum, the Sapporo Beer Museum, alongside Moerenuma Park, which showcases architectural designs by Isamu Noguchi.

Transportation infrastructure includes Okadama Airport, multiple stations along the Sapporo Municipal Subway Toho Line, and several interchanges of the Sasson Expressway.

The ward's mascot, Tappy, represents the area's agricultural heritage as an onion-themed fairy, combining the Japanese word for onion with happy.
