水穂大橋, Steel arch bridge in Sapporo, Japan

The Mizuho Bridge is a steel arch structure that crosses the Toyohira River, linking the central district with the Atsubetsu subcenter via Nango Street. The structure spans about 150 meters in length and 20 meters in width, with pedestrian areas along its central walkway.

The bridge was completed in October 1986 and was the first Nielsen-Lohse basket handle arch design built in Hokkaido. This innovative design marked a milestone in the region's bridge engineering.

The bridge's name combines district names: 'mizu' from Kikusui and 'ho' from Naebo, reflecting the geographical areas it joins. This naming choice shows how the structure ties together different parts of the city.

The bridge has wide pedestrian walkways accessible from Nango Street. Its design allows for comfortable crossing in various weather conditions throughout the year.

The structure includes heating systems that prevent ice from forming on its arch members, keeping it safe during harsh winters. This system activates when Hokkaido's temperatures drop below freezing.
