Sapporo Mura Shrine is a Shinto shrine in Sapporo located in a quiet neighborhood with trees and residential buildings nearby. The grounds span approximately 2119 square meters and feature a wooden shrine building with a traditional roof style, stone gates at the entrance, and a water purification basin for visitors.
The shrine was established in 1899 when local residents built it as a protective deity for their community. The site was relocated later and the structure has undergone several repairs, with the local community maintaining continuous support throughout.
The shrine serves as a gathering place where locals come to pray for health, prosperity, and family well-being in their daily lives. Visitors can see people selecting talismans and drawing fortune lots, connecting their personal hopes with the sacred space.
The shrine is easily reached from Kanjo-dori Higashi subway station, located just a few minutes walk away. Opening hours run from 9 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon, and there is a water basin for hand and mouth purification before visiting.
The shrine is home to Hakikiyama Kagura, a special dance performance offered with music to express gratitude to the deities. This unique ritual is performed during important ceremonies and showcases the deep roots of local tradition.
