Anjo City Library

Anjo City Library is a five-story building with distinct functional areas spread across multiple levels. The structure includes reading zones, study areas, and meeting spaces designed to serve different needs of visitors throughout the day.

The building was completed in 2017 by MIKAMI Architects, using bricks made from local soil sourced from the Chita and Mikawa regions. This material choice anchors the structure within the local landscape and geography of the area.

The glass cube design elements reference the Tanabata Festival traditions celebrated in Anjo. Visitors can sense this local cultural connection through the building's visual language and how the space reflects community celebrations.

The library is laid out vertically with different floors serving different purposes, allowing visitors to move between levels to find the environment that suits their needs. This arrangement makes it straightforward to locate either quieter spaces or more active areas depending on what you are looking for.

The ground floor operates as an open social space for the community before visitors move upward to the library collections on higher floors. This design strategy creates a natural progression from public gathering place to focused study environments.
