南相馬市馬事公苑, Equestrian park in Minamisoma, Japan.
Minamisoma Equestrian Park is a comprehensive facility offering multiple riding areas with a 1000-meter track and indoor training zones. The grounds include several specialized spaces designed for different types of horse training and riding activities.
The park opened in 1995 for equestrian competitions during the Fukushima National Sports Festival and reopened in 2015 following recovery from the 2011 earthquake. This journey of reconstruction reflects the importance of this venue to the local community.
The facility holds deep ties to the Soma Nomaoi, a traditional horse-based ceremony practiced for over 1300 years in this region. You can feel these connections through the daily activities and the role horses play in local identity.
The park accommodates 300 cars and 28 buses, making it accessible for both individual and group visits. Plan to spend enough time exploring the different riding areas and activities available throughout the grounds.
The park works with rescue and rehabilitation programs where retired racehorses are given new purposes through specialized training. This work connects local horse traditions with contemporary animal care practices.
