田主丸大塚古墳, Ancient burial mound in Tanushimaru, Japan.

Tanushimaru Otsuka Kofun is a keyhole-shaped burial mound consisting of a rectangular front section and a circular rear section. This type of structure served as a tomb for people of high status during the era when such monuments were built.

The burial mound was built in the late 6th century as one of the most important structures of its kind on the southern island of Kyushu. Its size and shape demonstrate the great influence and power of those who were buried within it.

The burial mound reflects architectural techniques of the Kofun period, featuring a distinctive keyhole shape characteristic of elite tombs in ancient Japan.

The site is located within a public park offering permanent access and free entry, making it suitable to visit during warmer seasons. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes since the mound can be explored on foot, offering different views from both the top and base.

The historical site was transformed into a modern park where cherry trees frame the mound during spring. This blend of ancient burial site and contemporary green space creates an unexpected contrast between history and present-day use.
