盛巌寺, Buddhist temple in Ena, Japan
The temple stands atop a small mountain, featuring a main hall with a steep roof and containing numerous Buddhist statues and artifacts within its walls.
Founded in 1576, the temple gained recognition during the Edo period when it received protection from the shogunate and became a center for Kannon worship.
The temple maintains regular Buddhist ceremonies throughout the year and serves as an important spiritual center for the local population of Ena.
Visitors need to climb 200 stone steps to reach the temple grounds, which provide views over the Gounogawa river and surrounding mountainous landscape.
The temple houses a specific Avalokitesvara statue discovered by fishermen in 628, leading to the establishment of the first religious structure at this location.
