Ena is a mountain city in southeastern Gifu Prefecture that spreads across mountainous terrain and is crossed by several rivers. The Kiso and Agi rivers flow through the area and shape its landscape.
The city formed in 1954 from the merger of two towns and six villages and grew in 2004 through the incorporation of neighboring municipalities. These combinations shaped the present-day city.
