Arakawa Ōhashi Bridge, Road bridge in Edogawa-ku, Tokyo, Japan.
The Arakawa Ōhashi Bridge spans the Arakawa River with a steel cable-stay design measuring 653 meters in length and featuring a maximum span of 160 meters.
Construction began on January 26, 1967, and the bridge opened to traffic on March 21, 1971, as part of the Metropolitan Expressway Route 7 Komatsubawa Line development project.
The bridge connects traditional riverside communities and serves as a modern replacement for historical ferry crossings that operated along the Arakawa River during the Edo period.
The bridge carries high-speed traffic between central Tokyo and suburban areas, featuring the Komatsubawa interchange that connects to Funabori Kaido and other major arterial roads.
The central span utilized the innovative Prefabricated Parallel Wire Strand (PPWS) construction method, requiring 40 tons of steel piling to support the structure over the river's deep sediment layers.
