Musashigawa stable, Sumo training stable in Edogawa Ward, Tokyo, Japan
Musashigawa stable is a professional training facility for sumo wrestlers in the Edogawa ward of Tokyo. The facility contains several rooms, including a large practice area with sandy floor, sleeping quarters, and a shared kitchen.
Former champion Musashimaru founded this stable in April 2013, becoming the second foreign-born wrestler to lead his own training facility. His experience as the first Hawaiian yokozuna shaped how he built the new school.
Visitors can watch the wrestlers eat together during morning hours and follow strict rules that shape life inside the stable. Younger athletes take care of senior wrestlers and handle household tasks, reflecting the traditional hierarchy in sumo.
The training facility sits in the Chuo neighborhood, a ten-minute walk from Shin-Koiwa Station. Morning practice sessions start early and last several hours, with spectators able to watch quietly from a designated area.
The stable started its work with only four wrestlers and grew to nineteen athletes within six years. This development shows how quickly a well-run training facility can attract new talent.
