Kagamiyama stable, Sumo stable in Shin-Koiwa, Tokyo, Japan
Kagamiyama is a sumo stable in Shin-Koiwa, Tokyo, Japan, combining living quarters and training areas under one roof. The facility provided wrestlers with an enclosed environment where they developed their skills through daily training sessions under professional guidance.
Former yokozuna Kashiwado founded the establishment in November 1970 and led it for over five decades. In July 2021 it merged with Isenoumi stable, ending its independent operation.
Wrestlers at this establishment traditionally incorporated the character 竜 (dragon) into their ring names to honor their coach, the former sekiwake Tagaryu. This practice connected the athletes symbolically to their master's lineage and demonstrated the continuity of mentorship across generations.
The address was Shin-Koiwa 3-28-21 in Katsushika Ward, roughly a 15-minute walk from Shin-Koiwa Station. Visitors should note that the facility has not been active since 2021 and no longer hosts public training viewings.
During its final years before closure, this facility maintained only two active wrestlers, including the owner's son Ryusei. This made it the smallest active sumo training establishment in all of Japan.
